things change fast

On Wednesday evening Gary developed a fever and had continued vomiting problems. We came to the ER at the IMC hospital in SLC around 4 am Thursday morning, and they admitted him. He will probably stay here for a few days. There are multiple problems that have persisted or worsened, including the concern of a fever with his extremely low blood count, hiccups that lead to vomiting and prevent sleep, and large and small intestines that are now completely nonfunctional due to the cancerous growths surrounding them. They have gotten him rehydrated and he looks and feels much better than he did when we came in, and they have finally found a medication that seems to suppress the hiccups and vomiting for periods of time, but the options for treatment that might be successful are not clear. His doctors and nurses are great, and we will continue to work with them in the next couple of days as we see how things unfold.
For now he is not allowed to have visitors, flowers, plants, or food. There is a comfortable couch/bed in the room that is a great place for me to sleep as I stay with him. We appreciate your many offers to help. I can't think of much that we need right now, but thank you for your prayers and good wishes for him and for us!
